A family archive assembled from Mom’s scrapbook

From This
to This

A birthday gift, photographs, handwriting, and the memories that came back when the pages were finally opened.

Mom made this scrapbook for Dave’s 47th birthday. Four or five years later, he finally opened it and went through it from beginning to end. The last pages were difficult. He had to stop several times, regain himself, and then continue.

This digital archive preserves the photographs while making room for two voices: the information Mom left on the scrapbook pages, and the memories Dave recovered while looking through them. Where a date or detail is uncertain, the archive leaves it uncertain rather than inventing an answer.
